Real-World Impact of AI in Agriculture: How Scanit Delivers Crop Disease Intelligence

Scanit Technologies was featured in the India AI Impact Summit 2026 Compendium. Here is a summary of our case study.

Overview

Crop disease management has traditionally been reactive. By the time symptoms appear, the infection has been spreading for days and yield loss is already underway. We built SporeCam™ to detect airborne pathogens before symptoms appear, giving growers time to act.

The technology

SporeCam™ is an autonomous, field-based device for fungal disease detection. Each unit samples up to one million airborne particles a day using dual-spectrum imaging, then routes the data to a cloud-based AI engine that matches it against a digital library of pathogen spores. It distinguishes between similar diseases and tracks several at once, so a single device can serve a cluster of small farms. We call this "Labs to Land": laboratory-grade detection delivered to the field through dashboards, alerts, and APIs.

Results from the field

In our partnership with Evergreen FS Inc. in Illinois, the network grew from 20 million acres in 2022 to more than 40 million in 2023 and 2024, tracking four fungal diseases in corn. Over two seasons:

  • About 1,430 farmers benefited, across 1,085 farms and 275 advisors

  • Roughly 1.27 million risk alerts were issued, improving agronomist productivity by 18 to 28 percent

  • Around 79,000 fungicide applications were avoided or deferred, an estimated USD 9.9 million in grower benefit

  • Growers gained 7 to 12 days of lead time over symptom based detection

Validation and reach

Our accuracy has been confirmed in multi year studies with Bayer, and Syngenta agronomists projected yield gains of 20 to 30 bushels per acre in their Project Bin Buster program. We have also deployed in Maharashtra's grape regions through ABM Knowledgeware Ltd and DeHaat.
